Hi, I’m Colin
I'm a BACP-registered counsellor working online with clients across the UK. I bring over 4,000 hours of clinical counselling and mentoring experience to support meaningful and lasting change.
At CMCTalk, I offer counselling, mentoring and coaching to help you navigate your journey towards greater self-understanding, growth, purpose and fulfilment.
Real change starts from within.
I believe that meaningful change begins with understanding what is happening beneath the surface — not simply trying to change the thoughts, feelings or behaviours we don't like.
This is the thinking behind an approach I have been developing through my own experience and my work with clients: the Belief–State Framework (BSF) and Belief–State Integration (BSI).
If you're curious about the thinking and traditions that have influenced BSF and BSI, you can explore their foundations in FAQs.
The Belief–State Framework.
At the heart of BSF is a simple idea:
BELIEF → STATE → EXPERIENCE
The beliefs we hold about ourselves and our lives can influence the state of being from which we experience the world.
A belief is therefore more than simply an idea. It can shape how we feel, what we notice, how we respond and the possibilities we see.
For example, if I believe “I'm not good enough,” then anxiety, self-doubt, avoidance or the need to prove myself may make perfect sense. The system isn't necessarily malfunctioning; it may be responding consistently with the belief it has accepted.
This gives us another way of looking at difficult experiences.
Instead of asking only:
“Why am I feeling like this?”
we can ask:
“What would I have to believe for this feeling and behaviour to make sense?”
That question can open up an entirely different conversation.
Belief–State Integration.
BSI is the therapeutic process that follows.
Together, we explore the beliefs that may be underlying your experience, the state those beliefs create, and how that state may be influencing the way you experience yourself and your life.
We can then begin to ask:
What belief is operating here?
What state does it create?
How is that state shaping my experience?
Is this still a belief I want to live from?
What becomes possible if I choose differently?
The aim isn't to tell you what you should believe. It is to help you become more aware of the beliefs from which you are currently living, understand why your experience makes sense in the context of those beliefs, and discover whether another way of experiencing yourself is possible.
From understanding to choice.
When a belief operates outside our awareness, it can feel like reality.
When we become aware of it, something changes.
We have the opportunity to pause, question it and choose how we want to move forward.
For me, BSF and BSI have become more than ideas. I have been exploring and applying these principles in my own life and in my work with clients, and I have found them to be a powerful way of understanding patterns that can otherwise feel fixed or difficult to change.
BSF provides the framework. BSI provides the process.
And together they offer a different question:
“What am I currently believing, what state is that creating, and what belief do I prefer to choose from here?”
If you're ready to explore what's happening beneath the surface and take that next step towards meaningful change, I'm here to support you.

Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, loss, relationship challenges, financial worries, fear of the future, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I offer a calm and supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.
In our work together, we will gently explore the experiences, patterns, and beliefs that may be shaping how you relate to yourself, others, and the world around you. Through careful reflection and open conversation, deeper understanding can begin to emerge.
At the heart of this work is a simple idea: what we believe influences the state we experience, and the state we experience influences how we perceive and respond to life.
A belief such as “I’m not good enough,” for example, may create a state of anxiety, self-doubt, or vigilance. From that state, situations can be experienced differently, and our responses may begin to reinforce the belief that created the state in the first place.
The aim is not simply to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. It is to become more aware of the beliefs that are operating within us, understand the states they create, and begin to recognise that we may have a choice in what we continue to believe.
As this awareness develops, people can begin to experience greater clarity, self-acceptance, emotional balance, and a more grounded relationship with themselves and with life.

Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. (Carl Jung)
In my practice, I bring together the heart of counselling, mentoring, and coaching, alongside insights drawn from reflective and contemplative traditions from around the world. At the centre of this work is the Belief–State Framework (BSF) and the process of Belief–State Integration (BSI) — an approach that explores how the beliefs we hold can influence the states we experience, and how those states can shape our experience of life.
This approach can support many people, and often resonates most with those who are curious, open to new perspectives, and willing to explore their inner experience more deeply.
Through our work together, you can develop a clearer understanding of yourself — your strengths, your challenges, and the beliefs and patterns that may be influencing how you experience yourself and the world around you. Along the way, we may explore different ways of responding to difficulties and, where appropriate, consider what you might choose to believe and experience differently.

I offer support for a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, financial worries, fear of the future, bereavement, life transitions, self-esteem, emotional distress, complex trauma, and relationship challenges.
Sessions are offered on a pay-as-you-go basis, with payment requested in advance (ideally the morning of your session).
Please see fees for details of my cancellation policy.
Online sessions are 60 minutes in length and typically take place weekly.
If something here resonates with you, you’re warmly invited to get in touch. We can arrange an initial session or a brief consultation to explore whether this feels like the right space for you.
I am licensed to practise as a counsellor in the UK and also offer mentoring and coaching services. For clients based outside the UK, mentoring and coaching are available, but counselling is not provided due to licensing restrictions.
